Health Care - Residents in Taylor County have much to be thankful for regarding Healthcare. Recently completed in May of '03 is a 48 bed replacement Hospital. This new, modern, state of the art Hospital has the necessary services either on-site or through transfer arrangements to meet the Healthcare needs of our expanding County. IN addition, Doctors' Memorial Hospital is fortunate to have a helicopter available on-site to transfer critical patients to Tallahassee Memorial, Capital Regional Medical Center in Tallahassee, North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville or Shands Healthcare in Gainesville or Jacksonville.

The Hospital also has 6 Primary or Specialty clinics within Taylor County to meet Healthcare needs.

For elderly patients, Taylor County has a nursing home facility, the Perry Health facility, which has also serves as a rehabilitation center. A full service medical facility, Nature Coast Health Care, which provides a Pediatrician, Internist, Physicians, Eye Care Center and Surgery Center.

In addition, mental health counseling and facilities for retarded citizens are also available through Apalachee Community Mental Health Services and the TARC - Taylor Advocacy Resource Center.

The area has Doctors and Dentists with practitioners such as internal medicine specialists, cardiologists, family practitioners, a podiatrist, general medicine physicians, pediatricians, ENT surgeons, general surgery, radiologists, chiropractors, optometrists, specialists in orthopedic surgery and ophthalmology, urology, neurology and emergency medicine. More than 80% of local physicians are board certified and in full-time practice.

Recreation- Taylor County is the "Forest Capital of the South," located on the upper west coast of Florida with a vast Gulf of Mexico shoreline. The area has attractive, secluded beaches nestled along the coast. The county contains 1058 square miles has 80% of the land devoted to commercial forests and wildlife management areas. Much of the frontage of the numerous rivers and streams is owned by the Suwannee River Management District.

Each year thousand of tourists and natives alike, visit the many quaint fishing villages that dot the Taylor County coast. They enjoy the lakes and rivers of 11 public recreation areas as well as "flats" and offshore fishing. Speckled Trout, Red fish, and Grouper are in abundance.

They experience a return to nature with an outdoor camping trip on the thousands of acres of beautiful woodlands of Taylor county, refresh with an enjoyable swim along the un-crowded beaches of the Gulf and thrill to the unspoiled beauty of nature along the back roads of our famed "Hidden Coast."

Hunting the state owned wildlife management areas or the many private clubs yield deer, wild hog, and turkey which thrive in the managed forests of the county.

In addition to fishing and hunting, Taylor County has recreational facilities for all the major sports, plus canoeing, biking, camping and picnic areas.

The semi-private Perry Golf & Country Club provides a newly lengthened two tee, par 72 nine hole course. All nine greens have been rebuilt to USGA standards featuring undulations, tiers, mounding and extensive trapping. Many of the tee boxes have been enlarged and lengthened to make the course more challenging for low handicappers. The country club features a complete clubhouse, driving range and swimming pool.

For aviators, Perry-Foley Airport has three 5,000 ft. resurfaced lighted runways with 24 hours, credit card, 100LL fuel service available. It easily handles private and commercial aircraft, including twin engine and jets.

In October, the annual Florida Forest Festival with the world's largest Free Fish Fry is held. This event attracts thousands that enjoy the Parade, entertainment, arts and crafts, exhibits, and the free food.

Education- The Taylor County School System consists of six public schools and one vocational- technical and adult education center. The six schools are: Perry Primary School ( Grades K-2), Taylor County Elementary Schools (Grades 3-5), Taylor County Middle School (Grades 6-8), Taylor County High School (Grades 9-12) and the Steinhatchee School (Grades K-8), serving south Taylor County.

Taylor Technical Institute serves people from a variety of backgrounds and with vary abilities by providing programs in 3 major areas - vocational, adult, and community education. Career counseling and job placement are also available at the center. Two types of occupational education, job preparatory and supplemental, are offered, with a strong emphasis being placed upon high technology training to meet the needs of local business and industry. The school also offers a learning resource lab, adult basic education and general adult education programs. A wide range of short courses, seminars, and programs designed in response to community interests and needs are conducted year round for students whose ages range from kindergarten through the golden years.

In addition to the local public schools, North Florida Community College is located in Madison, Florida (30 miles from Perry), offering a full range of credit and non-credit courses. NFCC has a branch campus at the Taylor Technical Institute. In addition, Florida State University, Florida A&M University and the University of Florida are within easy driving distance of Perry and offers both Bachelors and Graduate degrees in all major areas.
